Thank You for Considering the Lifesaving Act of Becoming a Foster

Fosters truly are the FRONT LINE for these animals and a critical step in saving more lives! A foster home is a temporary living situation for animals while they are awaiting placement in a permanent home. Foster families provide shelter, food, care, love, and guidance. The number of animals we can save depends entirely on the number of people who will open their homes and hearts to foster them. For some of these animals, this will be their first experience being treated as a family pet. You are their salvation and you should never underestimate the important role you are playing in their lives!

Why Foster?

Fostering animals is crucial to our rescue mission. It goes beyond providing temporary shelter; it's about making a life-saving difference. For some, fostering offers the joy of companionship without a lifetime commitment or a chance to introduce new friends to existing pets. The more foster homes we have, the more lives we can save. It's a deeply fulfilling and often joyful experience. While there may be tears when a foster finds their forever home, the satisfaction of saving a life and making space for another in need is immensely rewarding.

How Long Can I Expect to Foster a Pet?

Foster families typically care for animals for an average of 4-8 weeks, though some stays can be shorter, especially for pets in urgent need. Some animals may require longer care due to age, illness, injury, or behavioral challenges. Before you commit to fostering, we'll discuss the expected timeframe, but some families choose to foster until the pet finds a forever home or until space opens up at the shelter. We provide all necessary medical care during the fostering period.

What are the Responsibilities of a Foster Family?

  • Provide a safe, clean, and caring environment for the animal.
  • Provide food, water, exercise and socialization as appropriate.
  • Monitor any medical and/or behavioral problems and administer any medications as directed.
  • Assist with transport to/from adoption events, PAWS veterinarian, or Pauls Valley Animal Shelter.
  • Participate in helping Pauls Valley Animal Welfare Society find a family for the animal.
